This is the way Mom used to put up our hair on a Sunday morning to go to church, except the Holmes County Ohio way was to put the Bobbies up higher on the head rather than letting them hang on the forehead. Mom would take small bits of pipe cleaner and roll the hair around the cleaner like you do with hair curlers and then turn the ends in to make it look like a little knot. I think nowadays one and two year old have piggy tails until there is enough hair to braid.
