Day # 142 - A Surprise Visit

When I first saw the guy with red on his head I thought it was some sort of play thing for he was with the children. But then we both headed for the same direction, the bike trail. He and his wife or girl friend were going to ignore me because I am not one of them or else because they are not one of us. They were obviously feeling sort of out of place among hundreds' of Amish & Mennonites, but instead I popped a quick question by asking him how to make red hair? And so he gladly told me how he bleached his hair with bleach until the crown hair were snow white. Then he dyed his hair with red hair dye. He looked at me and said, "Now you can dye your own hair."  Me asking him about his hair opened up a conversation, for she continued by saying that she has met me and I knew her grandpa. And if all people her grandpa was Emery Mast. and yes, I was friends with Emery because many a time he was at the park with his musical instruments and played beautifully. I love surprise encounters like this.

  1. Oh wow, See you can just not sweep people under the rug because of how they look. That is an amazing shade of red by the way. Growing up Amish taught me to make broad sweeping comments not based on fact.

  2. That's so cool. Who would have thought a conversation about hair dye would lead to a moment, where you two have a friend in common :) :) That's neat :) Love and hugs from the ocean shores of California, heather :)
