Day # 227 - Viola and her New Hat

A few weeks ago Viola ordered a hat from me and tonight I delivered it, just in time before they return to Holmes County Ohio where they spend their summer months. Viola and her husband Atlee are a dear old couple with a sharp mind and a keen sense of humor. Tonight was actually the first time I stepped into their home. I enjoyed the fellowship and food so much that I am planning to return more than once when they return to Pinecraft in the Autumn again.

About a year ago I wanted a cooler hat to wear during the summer months to protect my face from the sun and so I bought a spool of crochet thread and a hook and crocheted the crown to fit my needs. I would crochet a bit and lay it on my head to get the proper fit and then pull it out and start over, or continue crocheting until I had what I wanted. The first hat I made I also crocheted the brim but it just fell into my face and covered my eyes that I couldn't see where I was going. So I ripped that off and made a cloth brim with some scrap material and stabilizer to keep it's shape. I guess a man could wear it too as Dave, their son had it on his head and it fitted him quite well and even improved his looks a bit.
